when the music fades...

and all is stripped away...and I simply come... longing just to bring something that's of worth... that will bless your heart. I'm coming back to the heart of worship, and it's all about you, it's all about you Jesus... I'm sorry, Lord, for the thing I've made it... when it's all about you, it's all about you, Jesus.
As I sit here writing this blog, I am listening to the most transparently beautiful music... now if you know me, you know I love music... any and all music has a place in my life (there are some genres that I am not too keen on, but that's not the point). The Candlepark Stars has caught my attention on itunes today and I can't get over how amazing their music is.
When I think about worship, this is what comes to mind, beautiful, transparent, and vulnerable... we should put ourselves out there for God, giving Him the glory and praise He deserves. I know that I am guilty of the tight-fisted, somewhat prudish way of worship, holding back because I don't want to let go... but what does God really get out of that?
Psalm 100 says:

Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth.
Worship the Lord with gladness;
come before him with joyful songs.
Know that the Lord is God.
It is he who made us, and we are his[a];
we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.
Enter his gates with thanksgiving
and his courts with praise;
give thanks to him and praise his name.
For the Lord is good and his love endures forever;
his faithfulness continues through all generations.

We worship God because of what He has done for us, we worship Him because we were created to worship Him... Darlene Zschech of the Hillsong worship group states in her book Extravigant Worship
If our worship is spiritual and truthful, we will search our souls and appraise the value we place on His love for us. What can we bring to the altar that represents extravagance?
Worship is not just grounded to music, but it's in music that I find myself able to throw my head back and my arms out in reckless abandon and just worship. I identify with Michael W Smith as he shares the story of singing in his car. I know people stare at me sometimes because I am singing along with Travis, crying as I listen to the words of Laura Story's Blessings or just enjoying the beauty of a more ambient, insrtumental style piece by Kerry Muzzey or Thomas Bergason. Worship is what you make it, let it be extravagant.

Have a wonderful Father's day weekend! Happy Father's day to my amazing dad! I love you!
