Neil Gaiman's novel Coraline is one of my favorite books... its about a girl whose family has moved to a new home... she set off on an exploration and finds a small door that when opened, is bricked up. That night she discovers that the door now opens to a secret passage... she goes through to find her "other mother" in the kitchen cooking her favorite food. As she continuesto go through, she starts to think that this other world is better than her own.
When I first read the book, I was struck by the storyline... how many times have we wished our lives were different, or been jealous of someone else's life? Coraline was tricked by the "other mother" into thinking that the world Coraline wished for was better... until she discovered the other mothers secret... she wanted to keep her.
Coraline is faced with a choice and when she runs to her world, she finds that her parents have been taken by the other mother... After she defeats the other mother, she goes back home and finds that her parents have returned home. Coraline learns to love the life and the parents that she has been given, instead of wishing for someone else's life.
Paul writes in Philippians 4:11-13 that he has learned to be content no matter the circumstances... we can also learn to be like Paul... knowing that if we are in Christ, we have everything that we need.Enjoy today's selection... "The Mechanical Lullaby."
Have a blessed day!
