C.S. Lewis made this statement about friendship... Friendship is born at that moment when one person says to another: "What! You too? I thought I was the only one.
I love this quote... it sums up half of the lasting friendships that I have today... bonds made over books, science fiction, and just random conversations... Michael W. Smith put it best in his song Friends... Friends are friends forever, if the Lords the Lord of them... we all know the song, it's been played at many a graduation. A friend is someone that you've create a bond with, someone who knows you as you truly are and still loves you.
William Shakespeare put it best when he wrote: A friend is one that knows you as you are, understands where you have been, accepts what you have become, and still, gently allows you to grow.
We have earthly friends, but we also have a Heavenly Father who calls us friend, John 15:12-17 reads: My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. You are my friends if you do what I command. I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you. You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit —fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you. This is my command: Love each other.
Isreal Houghton wrote the song Friend of God and the bridge really sticks out to me: God Almighty, Lord of Glory You have called me friend Not only is he our Savior, he wants to be our friend! How great is that!
One song that has stuck out to me about true friendship lately is the song You've got a friend in me from Toy Story...
As simple as it is... true friends will always be in your life, no matter where they move to, where they live... Keep them close!
Happy Monday!
